Diocletian palace
Kratka 5-minutna šetnja od luke će vas odovesti do stare gradske jezgre smještene unutar zidina Dioklecijanove palače, velikog spomenika antičke kulture, od UNESCO-a priznate kao dio “Svijetska kulturna baština”. Palača je jedinstvena po tome što je jedina građevina iz vremena starog Rima u kojoj je još dopušteno stanovati. Palača je iznenađujuče dobro očuvana, vjerovatno zato što je stoljećima bila korištena kao rezidencija.U palači još ima područja koja nisu otkrivena.
Remnants of ancient town of Salona
Salona is old Roman town, 20 km away from Split, established 2 000 years ago in the bay of Jadro river. Small Illyrian-Dalmatian port, where the Illyrians traded with the Greeks attracted large number of Romans. By the end of the 3rd century Salona had 6000 inhabitants. Avars and Slavs destroyed Salona in the year 614. The citizens who managed to survive found the shelter at the neighbouring island and in Diocletian Palace, thus starting the life of new, modern Split. The ruins of ancient Salona are only partly explored, and all that has been researched proves the importance and size of this town in the ancient times.
Ancient town of Trogir
Trogir, one of the oldest towns at the east coast of the Adriatic Sea is situated 20 km west from Split. Its historical centre is settled at small islet, inhabited already since the pre-history, hidden in the channel between the shore and island Čiovo. That’s why Trogir is often named “Little Venice”. Another name, often referred to is „City Museum“, due to its history which dates back all to pre-historic times, rich with long-time cultural monuments. In 1977 UNESCO entered it in the register of “World Cultural Heritage”.
Klis fortress
The Fortress of Klis is only 15 km away from Split. Once it had important defence role. Illyrian tribes, Dalmatians, settled in this area 2 centuries B.C. The most turbulent historical time for Klis was in the early 16th century during the intensive Ottoman assaults to Croatian territories, when for long 25 years the Klis Fortress resisted Ottoman attacks and sieges. However, in 1537 the Ottoman forces managed to conquer Klis, and the following 111 years, Jadro river was the border between Ottoman Klis and Venetian Split. Only in 1648, Venetian army supported by local population, after dramatic battle, liberated Klis from Ottoman conquest.
River Krva waterfalls, Visovac
Situated in the magnificent National Park Krka, 80 km distant from Split, waterfalls fall across 17 natural barriers. This continuous game of sun and water creates fascinating views. You have a lot of time available to explore or photograph marvellous natural environment.
River Cetina rafting
Rafting is one of the most exciting ways to experience river streams and enjoy the breathtaking nature. The adventure starts at the coasts of Cetina river beneath Biokovo mountain, with provision of short instructions on canoeing down the streams to Radmanove mlinice, where we leave raft and can enjoy swimming in clean mountain river or walk around the forest.
The area around Cetina river is rich with local cellars and taverns, offering you the taste of all typical Dalmatian meals, with unavoidable bread prepared traditionally under baking lid.
