The project envisages the realization of an unprotected jetty on the outside of the embanked breakwater and the extension of the already existing coastal wall on the inside of the breakwater. It is planned that this area will be used for high-speed lines (catamarans) for passengers arriving at Split Airport or departing from the Split Airport in order to relieve road traffic by moving it to the sea and thereby contribute to environmental protection, mainly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Kaštela Basin D – Resnik consists of land and a sea part. The land part includes the access plateau, the road on the whole breakwater part to the operational shore and a part of the breakwater with the final layer of protective stonework in the extension of the operational shore. The current state of the coastal structure consists of an operational coast which is about 40 meters long on the inner side of the breakwater facility, with a total length of about 250 meters. It protects the water area with the mooring from waves from storms and southerly wave generation, which are the most frequent in the catchment area.
Thus, according to the project, operations will be carried out that include the realization of an unprotected jetty on the outside of the embanked breakwater with port excavation to a depth of -5.30 meters and the extension of the already existing coastal wall on the inside of the breakwater. The construction of the new jetty will provide a seasonal berth for a total of two vessels for fast shipping lines (catamarans) up to 40 meters in length.
The plan length of the jetty is 53 meters in total, with a width of six meters. The body of the jetty is generally formed by fortifications and “bridges”, i.e. reinforced concrete mounting brackets (monolithic with reinforced concrete plate). At the base of the jetty on both sides, an underwater seawall (1.50 meters wide) will be additionally installed for the purpose of widening the jetty to enable turning for fire-fighting vehicles.
The subject of the intervention includes the realization of a jetty on the outside of the embanked breakwater (perpendicular to the existing coast as a summer mooring). The total length of the operation, where the deepening of the seabed will be carried out for the needs of the manoeuvring space of the vessel on the outer berth, will be about 170 meters, measured vertically from the shore.
According to the project, the existing coastal wall will be extended by 52.27 meters and will maintain the width of the existing coast of nine meters. The construction of the coastal wall will provide a mooring for one ship up to 40 meters long.
Due to the insufficient capacity of the existing water pipeline for the future needs of the port, a new water network will be constructed with a new route position and a new connection point to the city water pipeline. The construction of four connection cabinets for the supply of water and electricity for ships is planned. The value of the project is 2.5 million euros (including VAT) and will be co-financed from EU funds.
