In accordance with international conventions, special attention is paid to the safety of the port area open to international traffic. Special security measures and protocols have been introduced in accordance with the Port Security Plan.

Port Authority Split organized and conducted the General Exercise Simulation of the Crisis in the City Port in Croatia.

On 18.08. 2006 was attested by a review of the Statement of Compliance of a Port Facility issued pursuant to the provisions of the Law on the Security of Ships and Ports Open to the International Transport of the Republic of Croatia and Part B of the International Regulations on the Safety of Ships and Ports (ISPS Ordinance), confirming that the port operates in accordance with the relevant provisions of Chapter XI-2 of the SOLAS Convention and Part A of the ISPS of the Ordinance.

Since the middle of 2007, the Ordinance on Determining the Class and Quantity of Hazardous Substances to be Handled in Ports, with which the ship can enter the harbor and the places in the port of Split to handle such substances, which is in force since 11 May 2007.

A new Security Assessment and the Harbor Safety Plan for 2009 have been drafted in accordance with the Maritime Ships and Port Safeguards Act.

After the plans about harbor protection were made, a new Declaration of Conformity of the Port (Statement of compliance of a port facility) was issued which will be in force by 2014.

One of the basic tasks of the Sector is to control the handling of hazardous substances and to take measures prescribed by the Ordinance on the handling of hazardous substances, the conditions and the manner of carrying out shipping in the sea, the loading and unloading of hazardous substances, bulk and other cargo in ports and the way to prevent the spread of the oil , Which took place throughout the year. The introduction of an environmental protection system is being prepared in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development. Environmental management standards become the interests of the port but also confirm compliance with environmental legislation, environmental quality reports, and measurements of the efficiency of the management system itself.

The Sector also approves and cooperates closely with the Concessionaires and Competent Services, delivers the data to the Port Operational Center and Accounting, and performs the controlled and agreed control at the port area under our management. It also collects data on shipwrecks and submits them to the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, and in the city port of Split, together with the Cleaner Company, we record a list of non-hazardous waste.

The Sector conducts security and protection records throughout the area under the jurisdiction of the Split Port Authority. The Sector, on a daily basis, collects Declarations of Hazardous or Pollutant Substances as well as Safety Checklists for loading or unloading of cargo and for any manipulation of dangerous cargo within the limits of our management.
