To improve the flow of passengers and vehicles in the City Port basin in the centre of Split, a new international passenger terminal is planned in the City Port basin, west of the access to the "outer berths" on the breakwater. The project involves demolishing the existing buildings and constructing a new one. Public and traffic facilities, including the Schengen border crossing, will be relocated there. Most of these facilities, including the border crossing, are currently located in the Maritime Passenger Terminal building on St Domnius Pier in the City Port basin. Relocating the border crossing and international passenger traffic to the berths next to the terminal would free St Domnius Pier in the centre of the City Port basin for domestic traffic and provide approximately 14,000 square metres of operational area. This would improve traffic flow in the City Port and shorten waiting times, with a positive effect on environmental protection and the fight against climate change, and create the conditions for greater security in the Port of Split. The project is included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021–2026. The project is worth EUR 15 million.
