Reconstruction and extension of the North Port in the Vranjic-Solin basin managed by the Port of Split Authority

The project "Reconstruction and extension of the North Port in the Vranjic-Solin basin managed by the Port of Split Authority" will respond optimally to growing traffic by moving lorries supplying the islands to newly built infrastructure in the Vranjic-Solin basin, in the Stinice area. The infrastructure will be improved by extending the Port of Split in the Vranjic-Solin basin, where the operational quay will be extended with a total of seven berths, six of them for ro-ro ships, with alternative berth uses. The project will reduce congestion within the City Port basin and in the centre of Split. Current and potential traffic to and from the City Port basin of the Port of Split will be reduced by more than a third, freeing the City Port basin in the centre of Split exclusively for passenger traffic, while cargo will be moved from the City Port basin to the Vranjic-Solin cargo basin. Car traffic to the City Port basin will flow faster, average waiting times for cars to embark and disembark will be reduced, and traffic in the centre of Split will be relieved. Travel and average waiting times for lorries will be reduced, with fewer engine hours and lower fuel consumption, and consequently less air pollution and noise. More fuel will be saved by lorries no longer driving through the centre of Split than will be consumed on the longer sea route to the Vranjic-Solin basin. Lower greenhouse gas emissions will make a significant contribution to environmental protection and the fight against climate change. The project activities will thus achieve its objectives: promoting and encouraging more sustainable and efficient cargo and passenger coastal liner traffic in the Port of Split. Cargo traffic will be moved from the City Port passenger basin to the Vranjic-Solin cargo basin, further defining the functional specialisation of individual port basins. The Government of the Republic of Croatia has included the project in the list of Strategic Projects of the Republic of Croatia. The total project cost is EUR 49 million. The project is at an advanced stage of preparation and most of the project documentation has been completed. It is planned to be co-financed from EU funds.
